Project 1 Network IP Redesign & Resiliency

We redesigned the citys network IP scheme to improve performance, scalability, and reliability by segmenting the network into separate subnets to reduce broadcast storms. The design introduced strategically located hub sites, each managing its own group of intersections, and implemented redundant RTSP paths to increase overall network availability. Additionally, we developed a forward-looking switch replacement strategy that supports the agency’s existing copper infrastructure while enabling a seamless future transition to fiber without requiring additional switch replacements.

Project 2 Legacy Interconnect Modernization

We tested and designed a network topology that isolates groups of intersections to reduce broadcast traffic while maintaining connectivity over legacy copper interconnects spanning more than one mile. The solution incorporated a hub-and-core architecture, with intersections connecting via copper to local hubs and fiber links homerunning back to a centralized core switch. This approach allowed the agency to modernize legacy serial communications to Ethernet while continuing to leverage existing serial infrastructure.

Project 3 Cellular Connectivity for Remote Intersections

We conducted research and validation testing of multiple cellular technologies to enable reliable connectivity for remote intersections where fiber, copper, or 802.11-based wireless solutions were not feasible. The resulting design provided a secure communications architecture that minimized reliance on public IP addressing and exposed ports while maintaining fast connectivity, low latency, and improved timeout performance for critical transportation systems.
